In Concord, MA, a house was one bedroom too small with an inadequate family area in the old, original kitchen.
We started by designing a little house, that had everything in abundance that the original house was missing,
connected by a hall, and dining spot.
A Family Room, Office, Master Suite, all could be reached through this connector, surrounded by an Italianate courtyard, introduced for privacy and definition.
A model shows the original idea. |

Ultimately, they realized they would not stay forever in this spot, so each of these elements was
brought down to it’s minimal contributing size. Several small additions were made, a connecting deck
instead of a courtyard, landscaping instead of a fountain, but a new family gathering area, a new desk area,
and a open kitchen were derived from the original.
